In 1939 The Shenandoah National Park was formed. Howard and Ruth loved to spend time there and take photos of the space and the mountains. An important note for these photos is that there are very few cars or people in the park or on Skyline Drive. This was the result of the park being so new that the tourists had not discovered it yet. When the government began to purchase (or acquire by other methods) the park's real estate, they had holdouts like any other developer.
