About

Our Mission:

We hope to bring these wonderful images to the public and make them available as a historical resource; to preserve the lifestyles and culture from a period reaching from the late nineteenth century to nearly the end of the twentieth.

Our History:

Howard Marler was born in North Carolina in the 1920s and as a high school student, he developed a love of photography. After graduating High School he moved to Washington D.C. for work; following his marriage and service in the U.S. Navy during the last half of World War Two he and Ruth settled in Alexandria Virginia. In the 1950’s he moved from being a hobbyist to professional photography; he continued to work until his age and health forced him to stop in the late 1990s. As a result, we have pictures that cover every activity including: industrial, commercial, political, nature, and family events both his own and others’. Photos were taken for various private clients, governments, and newspapers.
